Webster County First Graders Lost Their Umbrellas!

Students in Mrs. Deidre Sterling’s class enjoyed making their umbrellas unique. Once all were done, each student used a graphic organizer to come up with adjectives that specifically described their umbrella. This helped them create 3 sentences which they read to their classmates. Students listened carefully as they decided which umbrella was being described. They all enjoyed solving the mystery of the missing umbrellas!

Mrs. Katha Scott's Government Class

Students in Mrs. Katha Scott's government class at Webster County High School have been investigating the role of political parties in state and national elections. After completing their study, students were tasked with creating a new political party complete with a platform on which to run. The new parties campaigned and held a presidential debate before voting in our mock election.

Mrs. Godwin’s 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Classes

Some of the math students in Mrs. Godwin’s 6th, 7th, & 8th grade classes at Webster County Schools recently competed in the Junior Math Tournament at Georgia Southwestern State University. The tournament was created about five years ago and has grown to host about 1300 students in grades 3 through 8. “Polygon Monsters”

Miss Wright’s 2nd grade class is learning about the different types of polygons. The students examined polygons to find the amount of vertices and edges. After viewing the polygons, they created monsters using the shapes of the polygons given to each group. Students had a Blast completing this task! Springer Opera House

Webster County High School students in grades nine through twelve recently traveled to the Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia where students enjoyed a performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. “A Trip to the Firehouse”

The students in Miss. Wright’s 2nd grade class at Webster County Schools are learning about the main idea of a story. The class read a story called “A Trip to the Firehouse”. After reading the story, students were divided into groups and they created a tree map. The tree map consisted of several main ideas and the students had to sort the supporting detail under each main idea topic.

WCHS Student of the Month

This student seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to help a school mate when someone is in need. I have come to expect a warm and cheerful smile and a friendly wave when I see her in the hallway. She is always optimistic about the classroom tasks and assignments, which makes it a pleasure to be her teacher. The Webster County High School student of the month for November is Taylor Busby.

Second grade students in Mrs. Jamie McCullough’s class at Webster County Elementary really enjoyed learning about the writing process while writing letters to Santa this week! Students completed a prewriting before writing a rough draft. They loved playing the role of the teacher as they checked each other’s work while editing. The published writing was hung in our halls for our visitors to see during our annual Christmas program.

On Thursday evening, December the 13th, the Webster County High School Chorus, under the direction of Ms. Beth Blankenship, performed at the annual Christmas program. The students had worked for nearly two months preparting for this program. After they enjoyed watching the elementary classes sing their songs, the students took the stage. Mr. Wilder’s 9th Grade Biology Class

In December, from Webster County High school   prepared an exciting project presentation on Ecosystems.  The students were tasked with creating an ecosystem in a jar, in which they collected items from nature (twigs, sticks, water, aquatic life, dirt, rocks) to mimic an aquatic ecosystem.  Once the jar was complete the students wrote 3-5 paragraphs to describe the life forms present in their ecosystem.  Each student made a one minute presentation of their completed...

Mrs. Godwin’s Math Class

The 7th graders enjoyed playing Tic Tac Toe in Mrs. Godwin’s Math class while expanding their knowledge of percents and proportions. To further their understanding of percents, each student was given a tic tac toe board with percent word problems in each box. Students had to read and work the problems discovering the information that they know versus need to know.
