Mr. James McCullough’s Study Skills Class

In Mr. James McCullough’s study skills class students have been working on reading comprehension skills and strategies. In one such example, the 8th grade class recently read Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and wrote a response as if they attended the speech, and it was given in present day rather than 1963. Students also created their own speech to speak out against a perceived injustice they are facing as Dr. King did many years ago.        ...

Follow the Drinking Gourd

The students in Mrs. Eddierene S. Prather’s fifth grade reading class read Follow the Drinking Gourd by Jeanette Winters. Also, the students listened to the song. After reading the book and listening to the song, the students had several activities to complete.  The students worked in groups on the activities for two days.  The students had to complete a song or rap that included hidden clues to help the runaway slaves make it to freedom.   The students had to use the...

A Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

Pictured here is Mrs. Beverly’s pre-k class of Webster County School who took a field trip on Friday, October 21st to Mark’s Melon Patch in Sasser.  We went through the corn maze safely, played in the corn and cotton barn, saw the farm animal exhibit, jumped in the Pumpkin Jump Castle, and last but not least, went on a fun and educational hayride.  We ate a picnic lunch and after lunch, we played on the playground.  We had so much fun.  Mr. Mark gave each of us...

WEBSTER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTEND PROBE FAIR

Webster County High School juniors and seniors attended the PROBE Fair held on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia Wednesday, September 28, 2016.  Ms. Dorothy Crimes, Mr. Keeyon Battle, and Mr. Greg Riggins escorted 41 juniors and seniors to this event. The students were able to meet college admissions counselors from various colleges.

Sarah Chambers, Recruiter Coordinator, from Georgia Military College-Columbus campus visited with Webster County High School students Thursday, September 29, 2016. Georgia Military College offers a variety of degree programs and the main campus is located in Milledgeville, Georgia.

On October 25, 2016, Carson Bowen, Herff Jones, conducted a senior assembly informing students about ordering senior material supplies for graduation at Webster County High School.  Students will place orders Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the school. Mrs. Jamie McCullough’s 2nd grade class at Webster County Elementary School has just completed a unit on ways to change matter. In honor of the upcoming holiday Halloween, students used various items to create Matter Monsters where they changed the matter by bending, cutting, tearing, twisting, etc to make a new creation!

Eight graders at Webster County Schools in Ms. Betty Eschmann’s class have been learning about the periodic table of the elements. They learned that there are over 100 elements on the periodic table and that some have similar properties. They enjoyed researching an element, each, and making a poster about it. It had to include their element’s symbol, atomic number, atomic mass and the name of the element. Also, they had to show facts, uses and pictures of ways the element is used....

Beowulf

The seniors at Webster County High School who are taking British Literature with Ms. Beth Blankenship and Ms. Paige Ellis recently studied the epic poem Beowulf.  The students read and discussed the poem and then wrote essays on what it means to be a hero.  Finally, the students chose roles and created a skit in which Beowulf was put on trial for the murder of Grendel.  The students really enjoyed this final activity, as did the teachers.

Mrs. Katha Scott's World History Class

Students in Mrs. Katha Scott's World History class at Webster County High School have been studying ancient Greece and Rome. Using their research, students worked in groups to create poster projects called SPRITEs.  They compared and contrasted the social, political, religious, intellectual, technological, and economic elements of ancient Greek and Roman societies.

Ms. Audrey Mosley’s 6th grade English Language Arts Classes

Ms. Audrey Mosley’s 6th grade English Language Arts classes are studying the eight parts of speech.  They are completing a Menu Activity that was created by Georgia Southwestern student, Abbey Pilkington.  The students had to choose between three different foldables, four different sets of manipulative cards to combine two sentences using conjunctions, and five different independent practice activities.
